Dr Nathan Eisenstadt
Nathan/’Nate’ is Co-founder and Director at Kindling and Senior Research Associate at University of Bristol Medical School (Domestic Violence and Health Group) specialising in prevention and response to gender-based violence with a focus on men, boys and masculinity. Nate’s approach is rooted in his doctoral research which brought anti-oppressive pedagogy together with continental philosophy to propose an ethics of egalitarian conduct across difference. He brings this together with contemplative practices in his training and conflict resolution work delivered internationally.
Nate was lead qualitative evaluator on the The Drive Project – a national pilot addressing high-risk perpetrators of domestic abuse and currently works on REPROVIDE – a pioneering Randomised Controlled Trial of a domestic abuse behaviour change programme for men. Nate is an honorary research associate at University Exeter where, with with Prof. Rachel Fenton, he developed Football Onside – the first bystander intervention programme in the UK tailored specifically to sports settings. As Kindling Director Nate’s designed and led numerous large-scale bystander-intervention programmes across multiple sectors. His passion remains in the design and facilitation of ‘transformative group work’ especially in historically male-dominated spaces and/or settings where the call to equity can elicit discomfort.
